Determinants of Feedlot Cattle Death Loss Rates

چکیده
Death loss in feedlot cattle can have significant impacts on profitability. Not only does death result foregone revenue, but the operation still incurs costs to date associated with those animals. This study uses pen-level data from a private feed-lot Southern Great Plains. Both company- owned and customer retained ownership are included set. A Tobit model is used analyze pen characteristics’ influence cattle, including characteristics, source management treatment incidence. Results imply that several characteristics impact source, terms of both geographic location market type, has rate.

Vitamins For Feedlot Cattle
✓ B-vitamin requirements of feedlot cattle are not known. Stress and/or illness can increase requirements, resulting in shortterm deficiencies. B-vitamin supplementation, particularly in the first 10 days after arrival in the feedlot, may improve performance and/or reduce morbidity. Depending on the Bvitamin, supplementation may alleviate nutrient deficiencies of rumen microbes, or of the anima...
متن کاملSulfur Toxicity in Feedlot Cattle
Introduction: Sulfur is an important component of many functions in the body and is an essential nutrient for beef cattle. It is an important part of the amino acids methionine, cysteine, and cystine. The B-vitamins thiamine and biotin also contain sulfur. Rumen microbes require sulfur for their normal growth and metabolism. A large portion of the sulfur found in typical feedlot diets is a comp...

Commercial sugarbeet yields range between 50 and 100 t clean beets/ha, with sugar concentrations of 17 to 18% on fresh weight (8 to 18 t sugar/ha; Milford, 2006). For 2010, beet yields in the U.S. averaged 62.2 t/ha. However, in the Imperial Valley (predominant cattle feeding region for the state of California), clean beet yields averaged 98.8 t/ha (USDA, 2010); 9 Imperial Valley beet growers t...
متن کاملCopper Deficiency in Feedlot Cattle
This study was conducted on 25 animals randomly selected from a herd with 40 feedlot cattle, which had poor growth, rough hair coat, and change in the colour of the hair coat. Blood samples were collected from the vena jugularis into the tubes containing Na2EDTA for the determination of plasma copper concentration and blood profile. Feed samples were also tested for copper, zinc, and molybdenum...
متن کاملFEEDLOT MANAGEMENT Matching Cattle Type and Feedlot Performance
Correct projection of breakeven prices is essential to profitable cattle feeding. In order to calculate breakevens correctly, feedlot performance must be predicted accurately. Average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion (F/G), days on feed, carcass characteristics, morbidity and mortality can vary greatly from one group of cattle to another. This paper will revie...
